I received this book as a Christmas gift from a dear friend and can I just say that to me, BOOKS ARE TRULY UNFORGETTABLE GIFTS! So thank you for this! 🥰
I enjoyed reading Mindy Kaling’s book where she shared her personal life as a daughter, a student, a friend, her love life & career and her challenges being a woman of colour & not falling on your stereotype size & shape when you work in the TV & Film industry.
I love the voice of the book because it’s as if we’ve been friends and one day, we saw each other after a long time, so we decided to have a sleepover, to catch up! I love it when memoirs are presented in a manner that’s not boring & you can relate to their stories of the author. It’s easier to laugh and turn every page when it’s not too formal, do you agree?
That’s how I’m gonna describe it. Her POVs on friendship, being accepted & wanted to belong were all true. We’ve been there and maybe at some point, we felt the same way. And yes, even friends can break our hearts, too. Because the truth is, we will meet a lot of people but not everyone will stay & offer genuine friendship. Some just wanted ASSOCIATION especially if you’re famous.
I’ll be straightforward here and my pick’s gonna be her love life. It’s like a romance novel or something!
Will, The White House Guy
Their story is like super nakakakilig, and you’ll root for them to at least go for a date already because you know they have a thing! And they had a date and si kuya panalo ang mga banat eeeeehhh! Too bad they didn’t end up together and that was somewhat expected because, well, LDR and their too busy with their careers and their schedules are just impossible.
Then comes the professor. Ayayayay! Sam Cook (not sure if it’s the real name) and they had tension! But with him, perfect ang timpla ng kalandian ni Ate Mindy! hahaha!
“PLEASE LIKE ME”
In this chapter, she shared her life at the University where she tried so hard to be a sorority girl and made the cut! She officially became a Sigma Delta member but after everything, she realised that it’s not what she wanted after all. I get her and her reason. At times we wanted something so bad and we do everything to get that but after it’s yours, then what? You’ll realise, *sigh it’s not what I like. It’s like, we love the whole idea but we don’t love it enough to have it in our lives. Get it?
It’s funny when you decide you don’t like someone. I am the kind of person who, if my feelings are unrequited, can completely detach from someone emotionally if I simply put my mind to it. That’s why I’m always saying I would be a great serial murderer.
In conclusion, Why Not Me? is a funny but relatable book. I know Mindy Kaling because of her TV show, The Mindy Project, but that’s it. I got zero idea who or how she is as a person and this book made me like her. I am giving it 5 smooches! 🙂
