Frankie Rose is desperate for love. Or a relationship. Or just a date with a semi-normal person will do.
It’s not that she hasn’t tried. She’s the queen of online dating. But enough is enough. Inspired by her job at The Little Brunswick Street Bookshop, Frankie decides to take fate into her own hands and embarks on the ultimate love experiment.
Her plan? Plant her favourite books on trains inscribed with her contact details in a bid to lure the sophisticated, charming and well-read man of her dreams.
Enter Sunny, and one spontaneous kiss later, Frankie begins to fall for him. But there’s just one problem – Frankie is strictly a classics kind of gal, and Sunny is really into Young Adult. Like really.
IN A NUTSHELL…
(your first task, find out her real name) is a writer but when her second book was published, the reviews weren’t stellar and it hit her hard. Everything in her life was affected – her other jobs, her creative process, her self-confidence and her relationship with Ads, who is in my opinion, a total douche. <roll eyes> He broke up with her thru a text message! What the hell?! Okay moving on..
Frankie is also a literary snob.
Now, our awesome lead character has a lovely but CRAZY bunch in her life. (stressing on the word crazy here) Let’s see… She got her mother, Putu; Her dad, Rudolph; Seb, the 17-year-old regular customer at the bookshop, who’s secretly in love with Frankie and Claud, Cat’s hot husband who knits. Yes, you read that right. He is into knitting, folks!
She’s Frankie’s best friend since forever and I gotta tell you, she’s something. She’s the person when you combine Rachel, Phoebe and Monica of FRIENDS! Smart, CRAZY, bitchy but loving & protective! She’s the sister that we never had! Cat has a colourful background story, too and you’ll found out about this when you read the book. 😉
Frankie tried dating but she wanted to meet someone who matches her love for books. And with that, her genius best friend came up with the idea to find the love of her life thru books. She agreed and did the deed! Frankie left books on trams and trains with the hope that it’s gonna turn into something wonderful. And it sure did!
Customer Code: Edward Cullen
He’s got the complete (physical) package that a woman can wish for a boyfriend, but he’s got eyes for Young Adult Fiction. Remember, our lead here is a literary snob! On the day they first met, he bought New Moon! Haha! Siguro kahit ako, mapapakamot-ulo if I see a hot guy buying Twilight series. Their first meet up was made worse when it ended with a hilarious KISSING incident. It’s an epic swallow-me-whole moment if I’ll describe it.
But you see, despite the very awkward moment that happened between them, may spark, besh! Kinilig si ate Frankie! But she never thought that they’ll meet again. Ever! So did they meet again? I can’t say… read the book to find out! 🙂
Sunny works in Advertising and his personality reminds me a lot of Alex Astalis’ character from Sophie Kinsella’s book, My Not-So-Perfect Life. He’s spontaneous, always fun & unpredictable. How unpredictable? Let’s see… A normal person would bring food to a sick person, but our Edward Cullen here brought a turtle, instead of a soup.
everything about this book! The tone, the humour, the storyline, the way it was written and presented. There’s nothing that I would change, honestly. I felt connected with every character and I can’t hide my excitement as I turn to every chapter. I felt sad when they broke up and got scared towards Chapter 50! I had to do some deep breathing before I proceed. Of course, I don’t want them to end that way! And I’m scared because I got only a few pages left and I have no idea what will happen! At this point, (while reading) I’m open to anything! But after braving them last chapters, I finished the book with a huge smile on my face, with a bit of a surprise from Sunny.
Task no. 3: Find out Sunny's real name
So yes, this is a highly-recommended title and I can’t wait to read their next book!
Okay, here’s a giveaway. Frankie went on dates with the guys & a gal who messaged her after seeing the note at the end of her books. Together with her book dates, here are my favourite moments:
- The Ashley Encounter
- Jai – the stalker
