This is a three-part review on one of the newest indie makeup brands that won the hearts of a lot of ladies. Let me give you my insights and experiences on the products and maybe after reading this, you have that curiosity to try them yourself. 😀
Instagram (IG) is a great source of different things that are on trend. Looking for the latest makeup trend, fashion style, travels-related stuff, and even the cutest photos and videos of our furry friends – IG will be one of the best social apps to help you find the things that will please your eyes.
Cutting the story short, I discovered the brand thru Instagram. With great reviews, testimonials and photos from a lot of users, I got curious and searched any local sellers. The product is made in USA and though I thought of getting it directly from their website, I had my reservations because shipping fees will be costly (because that’s just how it is if you are shipping internationally) and I was just thinking of trying 2 shades first. Thankfully we have this site in Singapore named CAROUSELL and found some sellers. My first picks were Frenchie and Grind. I absolutely fell in love with them, but the next problem was the availability of shades that I like. This is one of the reasons why it took me a while to complete the posts. I had to go through a number of sellers so I can get hold of my picks. Luckily, I came across another Carousell seller in the name of Pingbong. This online shop carries most of the shades that I wanted to try and the rest was history. 😀
Each Colourpop Lippie Stix comes in a slim, white box. On the body of the box, you will find that the word “LIPPIE STIX” is printed in holographic letters while the name of the lipstick shade and finish are printed on a sticker-like material.
Inside the box, you will find the main product together with a white paper where the ingredients and guide on their lipstick finishes are printed. They have 5 different finishes namely:
- hyper glossy
Each lippie comes in a white, twistable plastic tube and at the bottom you will find the name of the shade, too. This is something that I really liked because it is different from the other brands. You can place the lippie stix in your makeup storage and when you need to use a shade, there’s no need to pull them, and turn it over one by one, just to see the name of the shade. I hope you get the picture of what I am trying to explain here. 😀
*please note that due to the difference in undertones, the shades may look brighter or darker to different people.
For your reference, I am NC25 in MAC Pro Longwear Foundation.
This shade was created by a beauty blogger, Kathleen Lights. Described as “dusty mauve pink” with a matte finish. Based on my research, it was deemed to be a dupe for NARS Audacious Lipstick in ANNA and Dose of Colors in Stone. I was quite surprised that I liked the way it wears on my lips. I never thought that I can pull it off. I was afraid that it would be too light for me or that I may look weird, but I was wrong.
This shade was created by another beauty vlogger named Dani of Coffee Break with Dani. Described as “warm mid-tone nude pink” with a satin finish. This is a lovely color that you can wear every day at work. It is somewhat close to NARS Montego Bay (matte finish).
Described as “neutral mid-tone coral” with a satin finish. This color is a not only great for the summer season, but also, you can wear it to work – not too light and not too loud. Coral is one of the shades that I am not friends with. I remember back in my university days when I had my first coral lipstick and it did not look great on me. My teeth looked too yellow and my face looked washed out so I was unsure on this one. Good thing I took the risk because, again, I was wrong. The color looked just right on me. Finally, I found the right coral shade!
This shade is part of Colourpop’s Forget the Fruit Cake Collection for the 2014 holiday season. Tuxedo is also a “cool toned neon pink” like Scandy BUT with a hyper glossy finish. If you were thinking what does “hyper glossy” mean, you are not alone, sister! I asked the same question and the answer was very obvious – it is waaaayyy glossier than glossy. My camera did not capture the exact texture/finish of my lips when I used the product, though. But if you can think of a lip gloss ad in a magazine, then you are on the right track. ;D
6. Heart On
Described as “bright cool-toned magenta” with a matte finish, this shade is almost similar to NYX Sweet Pink. A lovely color that brightens the face.
- The lipsticks are creamy and long lasting enough.
- One thing that I realized was that it wears better if you use a lip brush to apply the lipstick. The brush helps you apply the product evenly and you can build the color (from light to dark) very well.
- Easy to use and apply.
Their matte lipsticks are not drying at al l.After eating and drinking (Korean BBQ for lunch and had coffee after), the color faded a little and it was unnoticeable. There was no need to reapply the lipstick. HOWEVER, if you wear them for more than 6 hours, you may need to retouch though this may not apply to all the colors, especially the bold/dark ones.
- No feathering despite having meals.
- Very opaque and highly pigmented.
- Cruelty-free products
- this is the best part! Each lippie stix is sold at 5 USD while sellers in Singapore are giving it at an average of 12 SGD a pop. Each tube contains 1 gram of lipstick. Comparing it with other lipstick products like MAC at 3g for 16 USD, it seems like there is not much difference. BUT if you are the type of person who prefers to have a lot of options but does not want to splurge so much, then this is the perfect product for you. It is an affordable product with great quality. You really get what you pay for. 😀
- It has a light vanilla scent that is similar to MAC and I like it.
Unfortunately, this wonderful brand is not available locally and in order to get the shades that I want (both from old and new collections) at a shorter period of time, I had to go from one seller to another.
UPDATE on AVAILABILITY
(as of July 2016)
Starting July 12th, Colourpop is now offering International Delivery options except for China and Turkey. There is no flat rate for shipping because the delivery cost will depend on the weight of your orders.
- I wore Fancy for almost 10 hours and I my lips felt a little dryness after 4 hours.
- My lips got flaky at the end of the day (after 10 hours) but this is really expected because these are matte lipsticks.
And we have reached the first part of my Colourpop Cosmetics Lippie Stix review. Click here to read the second part.
